River Vaal Regatta
Dear Rowers, Coaches and administrators,
The good news is that the Vaal River is slowly returning to normal again.
The bad news is that we as the executive committee do not believe that it is still in the interest of rowing to run the River Vaal Regatta in February 2010
We have been watching with disappointment how management positions have been abused and how the schools have been made to choose between the RVR and a St Andrew’s regatta. We would rather focus our positive energies into putting together a regatta that all schools can benefit from later this year.
We would sincerely apologise to all parents who have made accommodation reservations, to our sponsors we will write individual letters, and to our rowers we would like to assure you that the regatta will be held later this year.
As a Committee we are grateful to all the persons who have assisted us in preparing for the regatta that attracted the largest entry to date. Thank you to St Andrews for allowing us to host on their behalf, they have our assurance that we will assist them where necessary.
Also, thank you to the Committee, specifically those who have given up their weekends to organise the clearing of Roodeplaat despite the inconsiderate behaviour we all saw in the emails being passed around. Finally thank you to the Stewards for making rowing the sport we all enjoy today.
Kind Regards,
Thys Kapp
on behalf of the 2010 RVR Committee
